About this course

This course is aimed at anyone who is responsible for training others in the safe moving and handling of people. There is no pre-requisite qualification for attending as essential teaching skills is taught as part of the course, however, to successfully complete this intensive 4 day course, learners should preferably have experience in working in a health and social care setting or prior practical understanding of people moving and a keen interest in patient care.

This Moving and Handling of People – Train the Trainer course focuses on equipping participants with the knowledge and skills needed to train others in the safe moving and handling of people. The course covers the legal requirements for moving and handling, the principles of safe moving and handling, and the use of equipment, the train the trainer elements, and how to successfully run a Moving and Handling course.

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to teach the following courses, either in-house or externally:

  • Moving and Handling of People induction training.
  • Moving and Handling of People Annual Refresher.
  • Moving and Handling of Objects.
  • Scottish Manual Handling Passport Scheme (SMHPS).

There are many benefits to organisations who can deliver their own induction training, such as improving the safety of the workplace and the efficiency of the moving and handling activities as well as helping to ensure compliance with the legal requirements for moving and handling of people.
