Course Description

Epilepsy is often misunderstood with different facts and myths surrounding this neurological condition despite over 500,000 people in the UK have the condition. That’s 1 in every 100 people.

This Epilepsy Awareness training course is aimed at those working with or responsible for the welfare and wellbeing of individuals with epilepsy.

This course is a great way to get to grips with the basics; participants will gain knowledge on the main effects of epilepsy and the way people with epilepsy must make adjustments to their lives. This course will also explore the different types of seizures, diagnosis, and treatments, as well as the importance of supporting individuals to take medication as directed by their doctor and behaviour, changes an individual may suffer from as a result of epilepsy.

Learning Outcomes

After this half-day course attendee will:

  • Have an awareness of what Epilepsy is, causes, diagnosis, and treatments available.
  • Able to recognise different types of seizure and how they present and recognise when a situation becomes an emergency and how promptly to deal with it.
  • Know how to safely care for someone having a seizure and what to do post-seizure.
  • Know what documentation is required following a seizure.

The session is followed by a multiple-choice assessment, designed to test learners’ understanding of the course. A certificate will be issued after successful completion of the training course.
