About this course
The Scottish Manual Handling Passport Scheme (SMHPS) is an initiative designed to help employers, managers, manual handling practitioners and employees reduce the risk of injury from manual handling, which is still a significant cause of ill health and sickness absence across the Health and Social Care sector in Scotland.
This mandatory training is aimed at anyone working in care who is involved in assisting people with their mobility in any situation. Staff working only with inanimate loads need to complete modules A,B and F only.
The course is competency based and has been designed in line with the SMHPS document. Upon completion of this 2 day course learners will leave with a completed competency booklet covering the 6 modules within the SMHPS document listed below:
Module A – Manual Handling Theory
Module B – Manual Handling of Inanimate Loads
Module C – Chair Manoeuvres
Module D – Bed Manoeuvres
Module E – Hoisting
Module F – Lateral Transfers
